The essentials on Tangier

Informations vérifiées le 18 octobre 2026 · Mr Taoufik

Arriving and getting around

  • By sea: the Tanger Med port, east of the city, is connected to Algeciras (crossing usually takes 1 h 30 to 2 h 30, depending on the ship and weather). The Port of Tanger Ville, right in the center, is connected to Tarifa.
  • By air: Tanger Ibn Battouta Airport is located about fifteen kilometers southwest of the center.
  • By train: the Al Boraq high-speed line connects Tangier to Casablanca in about 2 hours and 10 minutes, via Kenitra and Rabat.

Housing

  • Rents requested in rental ads (last three months, October 2026): median of about 90 MAD per m² per month. For 70 m², this represents about 6,300 MAD per month.
  • These are asking prices, not signed rents: they vary greatly by neighborhood, floor, and standing. Visit before committing.

Water, electricity, and sanitation

  • Since September 1, 2025, the Société régionale multiservices Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma (SRM-TTA) is the public manager of water, electricity, and sanitation in the region. The ongoing delegated management contract (Amendis) continues under its management: check the name indicated on your bill.

Health

  • CHU Mohammed VI of Tanger, inaugurated on April 28, 2023, has more than 790 beds and notably offers emergency services, a burn center, and nuclear medicine.

Schools

  • Regnault High School, opened in 1913, is part of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) network. It is the oldest French institution in Morocco.
  • Fees, available places and admission conditions: to be requested directly from each institution, as they change every year.

To see

  • The Kasbah and its museum, on the heights of the medina.
  • The American Legation, in the medina: the only U.S. National Historic Landmark located outside of United States territory.
  • Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules, west of the city, facing the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
