Settle in Meknès: useful benchmarks

Informations vérifiées le 18 octobre 2026 · Mr Taoufik

Arriving and getting around

  • Meknes is served by ONCF trains. Prepare your journey on ONCF Voyages for the exact date of travel and check the station indicated on the ticket, connections and luggage transport conditions.
  • If you arrive by plane at Fès-Saïss, check with ONDA and your airline for the flight, then separately arrange transfer to Meknes. Ask the carrier for a quote tailored to your arrival and luggage.
  • Before choosing a neighborhood, try the journeys between your accommodation, school, work, and healthcare. For accommodation in the medina, have the entrance access and luggage drop-off location specified.

Housing: an advertised price explained

  • Example recorded on Mubawab on October 18, 2026, listing 8430107 in Hamria: furnished apartment of 88 m², offered for short or long term, with an announced monthly amount of 4,500 MAD. The requested amount relative to the announced surface area is 51.14 MAD per m² per month, rounded to the cent.
  • This is the asking price for a specific accommodation, not a signed rent, a Meknes average, or a neighborhood median. Have the monthly amount, availability, and conditions confirmed according to the intended duration and period.
  • Ask what the monthly amount includes: charges, water, electricity, internet, maintenance, and any fees. Have the conditions of a yearly lease specified, distinct from those of a holiday rental.
  • Compare similar sizes and equipment, separating furnished and unfurnished. Visit the accommodation, check availability, and request written conditions before committing.

Water, electricity, and sanitation

  • During the check on October 18, 2026, Fatourati identifies the Société régionale multiservices Fès-Meknès for the payment of water and electricity bills in the former RADEM zone. Look up the current manager and the contract reference on a recent utility bill of the property.
  • To establish your budget, ask about subscription conditions and current rates. An old RADEM or ONEE tariff is not enough to calculate a current bill; also check what may be included in the rent.

Health: find public healthcare facilities

  • The Fès-Meknès Territorial Health Group directory lists Mohamed V, Pagnon, and Sidi Said hospitals in Meknès. Have the establishment confirm the sought-after department and appointment procedures before a scheduled consultation.
  • The same directory mentions the Regional Oncology Center in the prefecture of Meknes. Guidance, service organization and care conditions must be clarified by the relevant organizations.
  • Before settling in, check with your coverage provider about the care covered and the steps to follow. Ask the facility about any fees for a scheduled consultation or exam.

Schools: identified establishments

  • Paul-Valéry High School in Meknes is listed by the AEFE with certified grade levels from petite section to terminale. Consult its official profile and the institution for the admission application and the grade corresponding to your child's educational path.
  • Groupe Scolaire Al Mamounia presents itself as a private school in Meknes, from kindergarten to high school, following the Moroccan national curriculum. Request the detailed curriculum and languages of instruction for the desired grade.
  • Groupe Scolaire ALJABR Privé, in El Bassatine in Meknes, presents a path from preschool to the baccalaureate. This presentation does not constitute French approval: verify the curriculum and further study conditions with the school.
  • Contact each institution for available places and registration documents. Ask for a written fee schedule for the desired year, distinguishing between registration, tuition, transport, and catering.

To see: heritage and visit preparation

  • The historical city of Meknes has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. Its medina, its gates and the remains of the imperial city allow visitors to understand another facet of Moroccan imperial cities.
  • Bab Mansour, on El-Hedime square, the Moulay Ismaïl Mausoleum and the Bou Inania Madrasa are among the landmarks presented by ONMT. Plan your route and have access and current conditions confirmed; a heritage presentation does not guarantee the opening of all areas.
  • Dar Jamaï is now the National Museum of Music, presented by the FNM. The published rate for adults over 18 is 30 MAD. The FNM announces 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and a closure on Tuesday, but also mentions an opening from Monday to Sunday: have the chosen day and rate categories confirmed before your visit.
  • The Great Mosque, Jamaâ Al Kabir, is identified by the Provincial Tourism Council. Respect celebrations and ask which spaces are accessible to visitors, particularly non-Muslims, without assuming the interior is open to everyone. Ask for permission before photographing.
  • The Church of Notre-Dame-des-Oliviers in Meknes is listed in the directory of the Archdiocese of Rabat. Contact the parish to find out about visiting possibilities; the service times do not constitute tourist opening hours.
  • The Provincial Tourism Council guide cites the Riad district synagogue in its heritage inventory. This old document makes it possible to identify this Jewish heritage, but not to confirm current visiting conditions: inquire before including it in your program.

Crafts, flavors and culture of Meknes

  • ONMT highlights the stalls of El-Hedime square, damascening on decorative objects, embroidery, and leatherwork. Take the time to interact with artisans: ask who makes the piece, with what materials, and according to what steps.
  • Olive oil is among the products highlighted for Meknes by ONMT, which also presents the orchards and olive groves of its hinterland. The Provincial Tourism Council recalls the place of malhoun and Aïssaoua arts in local cultural life. For your outings, consult the announced programs and reception conditions.
