A departure is prepared for each person and for each stage of the journey. Start with the destination, dates and documents of all travelers. Then compare the entire route, from your home to the accommodation in Morocco, with connections, luggage and your household's needs.
Formalities vary depending on nationality, residency, travel document and family situation. Confirm conditions with the competent authority before booking.
Entry documents: start from your situation
For a French traveler, the passport must remain valid throughout the stay in Morocco. The identity card alone is not sufficient. Upon arrival, check the entry stamp and consult the stay conditions corresponding to your situation.
Franco-Morocomans are subject to Moroccan regulations. Also prepare the French identity document necessary for the return and have your case confirmed by the consulate.
To check the need for a visa or travel authorization, use the official Accès Maroc portal with your nationality, residence and travel document. If a visa is required, check your eligibility and requested documents before booking.
Traveling with children
To leave France, a minor who usually resides there and is traveling without a holder of parental authority must have an AST and a copy of the signer's identity document. With a parent exercising this authority, the French AST is not required; a travel ban or opposition must still be respected.
Entry into Morocco is verified separately: travel document specific to the child, accompanying person, and family situation. Consult the official information sheet for proof of parentage, authorizations, or court decisions suited to the child's case.
Choose your arrival and the right port
By plane, start with the arrival airport and transport to your destination. Consult the ONDA network and the carrier's conditions for luggage and connections. By ferry, check the exact port indicated on the ticket: Tanger Med and Tanger Ville are two distinct ports.
These route examples are documented with the port or operator. Check their schedules for your dates, vehicle, and travelers. Compare the total trip cost, exchange conditions, and the deadline indicated on the reservation.
| Departure | Arrival | Consult |
|---|---|---|
| Algeciras | Tanger Med | The port |
| Tarifa | Tanger Ville | Baleària |
| Sète | Tanger Med | GNV |
| Almería | Nador | Baleària |
Marhaba: check the relevant edition
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity published the closing report of Marhaba 2026 on September 15, 2026. This edition is over. For an upcoming trip, consult the announcement of the new edition and port instructions, in addition to your ticket information.
Before hitting the road, re-read the reservation: passenger names, dates, ports, vehicle category, and dimensions. Allow a margin adapted to controls and the conditions announced by the company.
Foreign vehicle and temporary admission
For Moroccans living abroad staying in the country, the 2026 ADII guide provides 180 days per calendar year, continuous or split, for an eligible personal vehicle. Check the expiry date of the admission card; CPI and year-end provisions require special review.
Prepare proof of residence abroad and the originals of the vehicle documents. For a borrowed or rented vehicle, check the power of attorney and contract. Before returning, ensure customs regularization; to leave without the vehicle, consult the ADII.
Insurance and assistance: check coverage
Ask your insurer for the international motor insurance card and verify that Morocco is covered during your dates. Additional guarantees and assistance may vary: have breakdown assistance, towing, repatriation, and accommodation specified in case of immobilization.
Keep your assistance contact details with your travel documents. Also check medical coverage and repatriation for the intended stay.
Luggage and special needs
Check included baggage, its dimensions, and permitted items with your carrier. Report assistance needs and pet transport as soon as you start planning your trip. For a dog or cat, consult ONSSA guidelines and also arrange return conditions with your veterinarian.
Prepare an accessible folder for originals and a copy of your reservations. Keep the arrival address and useful information with you if your phone is unavailable.
Prepare arrival and return documents
If you are a non-European foreign national residing in France with a residence permit, the Service Public sheet specifies a valid passport and residence permit for the return. With a receipt or certificate, the answer depends on the exact document: check your situation before departure.
For the final steps in Morocco, locate your housing address and transport from the port or airport. The fact sheets for the twelve cities gather local landmarks and verified contact details. Prepare your journey with the people welcoming you.
Frequently asked questions
Is a French identity card enough to enter Morocco?
No. For a French traveler, the passport is necessary and must cover the stay. Prepare the documents for each child and separately check the case of Franco-Morocans.
How to know if a visa is required
Check your profile on Accès Maroc: nationality, residency, passport, and reason for travel. Have applicable documents confirmed by the consular authority if your situation requires it.
Does a child accompanied by a parent need an AST?
For leaving France, no if this parent exercises parental authority. Moroccan requirements and any judicial decision must be verified separately.
Do Tanger Med and Tanger Ville mean the same port?
These are two distinct ports. Check the terminal indicated on your ticket and prepare the route to that specific terminal.
Is Marhaba 2026 still ongoing?
No. The official closing balance sheet was published on September 15, 2026. For a subsequent edition, use the Foundation's announcements and port instructions.
Does vehicle admission establish my right of residence?
No. These are two separate formalities. Check the vehicle's expiration date and your own conditions of stay.
